The Saviour’s Birth
With David Cowen – Solo Organ
St James the Greater, Leicester
(click for map)
7.30pm Saturday 6th December 2008
A blend of choral and organ music inspired by the period of Advent and the Feast of the Nativity. The programme will include Francis Poulenc’s beautiful Christmas Motets, carols by Maxwell Davies, Pierre Villette, John Byrt and others. The choral items will be interspersed amongst sections of Olivier Messiaen’s mesmeric and seminal cycle for solo organ La Nativité du Seigneur. 2008 sees major celebrations worldwide of Messiaen’s music, as we celebrate the centenary of the composer’s birth. We are very fortunate, in our accompanist David Cowen, to have someone associated with Chorale who is able to perform this fiercely challenging, yet thrilling music.
