A major part of Leicestershire Chorale’s work is with young musicians.
To encourage and support promising young singers, Leicestershire Chorale offers a number of Choral Scholarships for young people in full-time education aged between 16 and 22.
We regularly have a team of choral scholars (up to 8 in a year) who receive financial support, expert training and gain experience of singing with one of the best choirs in the East Midlands. They also usually get the opportunity to sing as soloists from time to time.
Here is what two recent choral scholars had to say about this opportunity.
Gina Baker (soprano)
I came back to sing with Chorale during my third year studying at Birmingham Conservatoire because I missed the choir so much. I have loved singing with Chorale again it’s been such a thrilling experience to sing with such amazing, talented people. I have always felt so welcome and Chorale really does feel like family. Chorale has really helped with my confidence and I have had so many amazing opportunities through the choir and feel very lucky to be a part of it.
Gina Kellie (alto)
I’ve been singing with Chorale for just over a year now, as a Student Member last year and I became a Choral Scholar this year. It’s been the perfect opportunity for me to gain some experience with ‘real’ choral music – thoroughly enjoying every minute of it, whilst still being challenged with some amazing repertoire I’ve come to fall in love with. It wouldn’t be the same, however, without the support and guidance of Tom, the ability to become a Scholar, and the wonderful people who make it such a delight to belong to a choir of such a great standard and enthusiasm.
Anyone who would like to nominate a potential choral scholar, or anyone who would like to nominate themselves, should get in touch.
